Yes, every person in the United States, regardless of immigration status can apply for a Tax ID Number (TIN) to file their taxes. Undocumented immigrants can become independent contractors or freelancers by using a TIN or EIN. Some undocumented immigrants have also received Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and consequently have a social security number that allows them to work as full-time employees or independent contractors.
